Description
Canterbury Phaeton built by Bligh Bros of Canterbury, circa 1896 to suit 15.2hh single or pair.
A smart painted dark green vehicle and matching upholstery with yellow coach lines to the body & wheels. On 36/45ins, 12/14 spoke English pattern wheels with elliptic springs and brass hob caps with the makers name.
A small rear adjustable seat is accessible via a drop down tailgate supported by covered chains. Fitted with a handbrake, lamp brackets, brass whip holder and both rubber and coil cord matting. Recent traditional curb side step fabricated to match.
Vehicle comes with a pole, splinter bar and independent shafts. Since photos were taken the dashboard, tailboard, mud guards and shafts have been professionally repainted.
This carriage would make a superb Attelage or Private Drive vehicle. The makers original advert describes the vehicle; as light as a two wheel with the advantages of four wheels. This is a rare vehicle by a renowned builder, originally from the Ashburnham family of Ashburnham Place, Battle.
